its going to be a VERY long post since im gonna blog abt...my 1st 3 days at YCSH!! (: so skip all these if ur not interested then lol..just tot i shld put this all down before i forget anything since i realli wanna remember this memorable period of my life..every single day is like so precious to me i feel and i will definitely not slacken in updating abt this trip since its like my diary..anyway i feel that its a great experience so tot i will share this with all of you (:
Day 1 at Yong Chun Senior High (YCSH)
was really nervous & excited at the same time when i woke up this morning to get ready for school. being it my first time attending an exchange program, i was quite worried tt the taiwanese may not like us or smth..however it was clear very soon tt all my worries were totally uncalled for.
1st impression of the taiwanese students : they are all so warm & friendly! when i stepped into my buddy xin yu's class on the 1st day, alot of her friends all smiled and said hi to me. even ppl we din know came over to tok to us at the bball court when we were standing there watching students play. its quite unlike when our buddies came to singapore, i realised tt not many tjcians came fwd to say hi to them and start conversation. in fact, most of them dun really seem to care abt their existence, i would say.
the 1st lesson of the day was French. and let me tell you, this lesson is totally AWESOME!!! the french teacher was super cool and she just started speaking to us in french the moment we walked in and we were all like HUH? haha but very quickly, we learnt to order things in a french restaurant lol(: for eg, things like "je voudrais de les glaces!'' (meaning i would like to have ice cream! ) haha basically, the meal is split into 4 parts: entree, plat principal (main course) & dessert. aft learning all this, we say bon appetit! hehe:P not only did we learn tt, we learnt a french song called chevaliers de la table ronde! hehe i can sing to u guys next time if u want (: ohoh and the COOLEST part of the whole lesson was we got to sample things like french wine, le cafe(coffee) ,le the (tea), chocolates, le glateau(cake) & le fromage! (cheese). haha aint tt totally totally cool!?
aft tt, we had a traditional arts lesson where we got to blow candy! i dun think u will understand unless i show u pictures, so i shant elaborate abt it now till i upload the fotos. ohoh and we got to make animal figurines with food dough too!:P haha it was great!
anyway, another thing i noticed abt the school culture is tt teachers and students are just like friends ya noe..though the students tend to be a TAD bit disrespectful but i must definitely admire the teachers for their high level of tolerance! lol
ohoh another thing is tt taiwanese have a thing against 5566! no matter where u go, 1 of the first things they will ask is " who is ur fav taiwanese celebrity? " or "do you like 5566?" lol and when u say no, they will start cheering. haha! :p anyway, the reason why 5566 is not well-liked is cos they are very "tai ke" in their opinion..
so anyway this kinda wraps up the 1st day at school which i will rate 10/10 on the fun scale! :P
Day 2 at YCSH
got my set of uniform today and i must say, it really sucks!! the cutting is bad and the color coordination is bad too..its green & yellow, haha so basically, we look like corn -_- for the 1st time, i actualy appreciate the tj uniform alot. haha and their blazer is grey, yarh so ours is considered super cool already hehe..
we learnt to tie some chinese knots in class today. and its again been proven tt i do suck at handicraft!!! kept tying the stupid knots wrongly lah and i had to redo over and over again..argghhhh~ shant say this in detail, since it was quite a boring klaz..
had home economics lesson today with my buddy's class-class 203. while we were sitting at the table listening to the teacher tok, managed to get to noe her classmates more and i tell u they are all realli super interesting ppl! (not just their hair, which they take like 30min! to style lol! and NOTE: THEY ARE GUYS!!) haah ohoh on a side note, i have to comment that the guys here are really vain! lots of them are like armed with a comb, wax and mirror and they just style their hairs openly in class! lol
anyway, wat i realli want to say is tt the taiwanese guys are really cool! u noe in this lesson, its the guys that are doing all the cutting, washing and cooking, lol i took so many pictures and videoed them cos i was super impressed. hehe and they call themselves the "xin hao nan ren" which i quite agree. this is smth singapore guys shld learn frm them!
hehe anyway, the way their lessons are conducted are realli quite diff. from us. its like every morning without fail, everyone has to stay in class and do a class test and their "jiao guan" (equivalent to our discipline masters but in military uniform) will survey the corridors to make sure no one is walking around. oh and during lesson time, they can just eat and drink without the teacher even batting an eyelid. so cool right! and i realise tt taiwanse have a habit of bringing their own lunch boxes to school. they even have a steamer in their class rooms for steaming their food! haha so cute right..
ohoh smth realli interesting happened today. the class were supposed to have an english listening test where they will listen to the radio and ans qns. unfortunately they got the wrong cd so i ended up standing in front of the classroom, holding a mike and reading out the qns to them! hahaha so funny, and each time the teacher looks away, they will ask me for ans and i will just signal to them hehehe...(: played military paintball today too. wasnt as fun as i expected. listened to the instructor talk about the rules for a whooping 1 hour and guess what? we only managed to play for like 10min..-_- total waste of time man. haah anyway if ur interested to know, i got shot in the goggles lah lol dunno if i actually shot anyone cos i was just anyhow shooting like crazy hehe.
aft school today went to night market wif tiff, cheryl and our buddies. haha met up with tze woon, ben, daryl that bunch of guys and their buddies and ate and hung out. hha we had so much fun man!! cant wait to meet up wif them again on sat cos we are gg to an amusement park and staying over at someone's hse! lol can see may then and ask how shes doing :P
Day 3 at YCSHtoday's first lesson was kinda boring since we were learning abt taiwan history. haha history just nv fails to bore ppl. lol anyway aft tt we had a field trip to some archaelogical musuem which was kinda cool since i have nv been to a musuem like dat. aft tt we went to some forts and all tt to take a look which was realli kinda boring. visted a senior high school too and although it was boring, i have to say this cos we went to visit jay chou's senior high school! (this note goes out specially to xiangting lol)
aft tt the whole bunch of us (YCSH ppl) went to some night market to eat and just walk around..actually wanted to go shi lin night market today but it was kinda late so we plan to go another day..yep
anyway aft coming to taiwan, tiff and i have been gg to the arcade to play the bball shooting baskets game EVERY SINGLE DAY! lol each day we try to break our previous day record. haha and as usual we played again today and the guys were super impressed. gonna have a PK MATCH with them soon!! hehehe and we shall show them our prowess HAHA! :P
hm oh another thing tt tiff and i do everyday without fail is that we drink bubble tea EVERDAY! lol theirs is SO SUPER GOOD cann...and they have so many diff flavours. tried this bubble milk green tea which is so unique! their chocolate milk tea is like HEAVENLY too! they even have those very small pearls which are like realli Q and taste so much better than our pearls lahh...hm so far, in my opinion, the 1st prize for best milk tea goes to the one i tried today-ICE CREAM MILK TEA!! wooowww i tell u the taste is so super shuang can! vanilla ice cream with milk tea is THE best! :P
hm im having so much fun in taiwan..making so many new friends, having the experience of my life...i am most definitely gg to treasure my remaining days here and make the best of it by trying to learn their culture and learn more abt them. i think deciding to sign up for Taiwan Exchange Programme is really a superb decision and from the very first day i filled in the form till now, i have never ever regretted it! think this is realli the experience of the lifetime and i really feel very very lucky to be in it..
haha ok then, its getting late i will update again soon..lol wow its realli a super long entry..wonder which of u will achalli manage to read till here..:P
